From the SRA website -taken from their Probate Fees template:

"We anticipate this will take between X and X hours work at £X per hour. Total costs estimated at -£X-X (+VAT).

The exact cost will depend on the individual circumstances of the matter. For example, if there is one beneficiary and no property, costs will be at the lower end of the range. If there are multiple beneficiaries, a property and multiple bank accounts, costs will be at the higher end."

OK so at the bottom end it is a stroll in the park. You might not even need a grant of probate. At the top end it could involve multiple assets, businesses, freehold and leasehold properties, shareholdings, bank accounts and so on.

By my reckoning the fees will be between £500 and £50,000.00 (or more) depending on the complexity of the case.

I think the "customer" will find that really helpful to know.
