"The length of time your residential sale or purchase will take depends on which idiotic volume firm of conveyancers has been instructed to act for the other party." Anon 2 October 2018 14:08

Inevitable that the traditional "blame the other party's conveyancer" approach would enter the conversation.

In 1970 I was working on a consumer survey of conveyancing where this was the second most common reason for delay perceived by parties to transactions.. Last year a government department repeated the exercise and found that it had risen to first.

I do not believe that only those who respond to surveys use prompt advisers while those that don't slow ones.

It is about time that conveyancers appreciated that home moving involves a supply chain and that supply chain management expertise is necessary.

My son has this. When faced with the usual excuses he used a standard SCM technique. Rang up the other side's solicitor and informed him of what was being said about him. Invective echoed up and down the chain but all soon realised that this was doing none of them any good and just got on with the job

I would recommend the approach to all clients/customers/consumers.

Information on how good individuals are at SCM is a difficult but worthwhile challenge for SRA.
