Re those who are against people posting anonymously, I sympathise. However I am apparently signed in with the very long name bequeathed on me by my parents many years ago. I cannot shorten it on the commentary. I do not use my full name in everyday life and have no wish to be known by it.

The only alternative is to choose anonymous, hence I do, save I give below the name by which I sign my letters.

I have taken the issue up with the deputy editor (Mr Fernandes?) who, although courteous could offer neither an alternative nor explanation as to how my full name came up as my being signed in. I repeat the question? Plus why cannot I choose the name by which I sign in or at least be able to shortern it?

Further, one of the reasons the SRA was created was to remove the conflict of the Law Soc being both regulator and de facto trade union. Now the Law Soc should be acting in the interests of its members. Its immediate past President, Joe Egan, is a nice guy with a small but presumably successful practice in Bolton. He must/should know the issues.

If you are unhappy hound your Law Soc rep. If needs be stand against him or her.

The BMA acts for doctors. Why does the Law Soc not act for solicitors?

N Millar.
