If it makes some people happier and does no harm . . .

The real battle is yet to come: the fight back against cohabitees' "rights". If you want a share on any break-up, insist on a marriage or a c.p. - if you don't, don't try to take somebody else's assets when it happens.

And while we are in the area, restrict claims under the Family Provision Act to spouses, civil partners, ex-spouses (but time-limit claims by ex-spouses against the living or the dead to three years) and minor children. The people, in short, whom the deceased could have been made to support in life; not cohabitees or people being maintained.
