I wonder how many of those who are complaining about The Law Society actually took the trouble to respond to the SRA's consultation? I read the Law Society's response, which was well-argued and pointed out very clearly the dangers of confusion in the minds of those who need to purchase legal services. It also highlighted the risks of lack of protection for clients and the potential for serious reputational risk to ALL (regulated) solicitors.

When the SRA made known its intention to ignore the various objections, the Law Society made representations to the LSB, urging it to reject the proposals.

The Law Society cannot do any more than respond to consultations in the strongest terms - they have no remit over the SRA, never mind the LSB.

The SRA received 77 responses - from a population of 140k solicitors and maybe 10k law firms.

Whatever your thoughts about the 'agenda' that the SRA and/or the LSB might be working to, it's been pretty easy for them to argue that there have been minimal objections when so few negative responses were received.

For the record, I have no connection with the Law Society.
