I used to work for Fentons, and made plans to get out as soon as the Australians arrived. A lot of people did likewise, and although I am surprised that more people didn't, that they didn't was their choice.

From your lofty vantage point, I expect that the factor you may not have considered is that for some years now (thanks to the ABI's concerted and well-funded propaganda and lobbying campaign), the PI market has contracted significantly to the point that upping sticks and leaving is not easy, and even if it can be achieved, doing so puts you at the top of the new firm's list of people to go in the even of further contraction. Which of course you continue to wish for.
