I have always assumed these are set up like virtual barrister's chambers - i.e. you have to bring your own work with you and you will get some back office but not much in the way of legal support. That said you keep 2/3rds of your fees (or whatever).

The gig economy is where the 'provider' sends you work and you do it at bargain basements rates. That isn't what is happening here is it? They don't provide you with work as such - or do they se-up some sort of cross-referral system if you need it?

If you have a decent following and are relatively self-sufficient it might be a very good model. But for those without a following or who are relaatively inexperienced and still in need of support and training from colleagues it would seem a risky venture.
