Absolutely ludicrous.

Expected to "Bring their laptops". What if we don't have laptops? Only the other day I was reading about family law being vocational and paying f*** all (I may have paraphrased there) which is certainly true. There is no money for laptops. The Legal Aid Agency won't even pay for us to travel to the bloody hearings!!

And staying around?! What if we have more than one hearing that day, as is often the case. Or what if the other side or the LiP has commitments?

I've been in plenty hearings where the DJ has left us to our own devices in drafting an order, as long as terms are agreed, and it works just fine. Email it between solicitors, send it to the court, judge approves, sealed order sent out in only 62 days (or thereabouts) - easy peasy.

This will not work. Family Law is broken enough as it is. This will just add to it.
