It’s important to try and look at this issue from every perspective. I often wonder where (if at all) account is taken of two material factors. First, the fact the parent who mostly looks after the children has to pay all the childcare costs, which are often a massive charge akin to an extra tax on their income, one unmatched by any contribution from the other parent. The CMS does not take childcare into account. Secondly, the parent mostly caring for the children is frequently working part time and her career and income may be adversely affected by her child commitments. Also her ability to contribute to a pension, often for the children’s minority. Just saying in the haste to sort out meal tickets we don’t lose sight of other equally relevant issues. I don’t agree with simple divisions along the lines of men v women. Horrible!
