Thanks for the comments on judges' titles. In common with many other news publications, the Gazette's house style has been to avoid honorifics - for example, we do not use 'Mr' or 'Ms' except in direct quotes, or where the label is essential for clarity. However if this is interpreted as a failure to show basic respect, we may have gone too far. Our rule now is to give judicial titles in full on first mention and subsequently to label the surname appropriately. In headlines and other places where space is at a premium we will continue to employ shortened forms - though be assured that some contractions are still banned: you will see no 'Brenda', 'Brian' or 'Rupert' headlines on my watch.
