Based on the criteria laid down in previous cases, I consider there are very strong grounds for classing vegan beliefs as being a protected characteristic. However, I believe the Claimant will face a much bigger problem to show that he was dismissed due to those beliefs and not for gross misconduct as the Respondent suggests
