I has a complaint made to the LeO by a disgruntled beneficiary of a discretionary trust where I was one of the three trustees. The complaint was that the beneficiary (one of five in the trust) had not been given as much money as she wanted, and had been forced to get a job.

In vain did I point out to the investigator, that they had no jurisdiction over trustees and the exercise of discretion. All I got was "I have no legal training and do not understand what you are saying." The investigator was fixated on the claim that the woman had not got as much money as she wanted and was thus dissatisfied.

After many months of my quoting the Trustee Act and case law, the matter was referred to a firm of solicitors who promptly confirmed that I was correct. It was intensely frustrating to deal with someone who not only knew no law, but didn't promptly seek advice from someone who did.
