If there's no criminal work for junior barristers today, presumably there will be no 'sitting pretty' senior barristers and silks to do the 'top end' work tomorrow. Does this mark the beginning of the end for the criminal bar? And assuming that there won't be hordes of junior solicitor advocates rushing to fill the void, it doesn't bode well for the 'ordinary' man or woman who finds themselves on the receiving end of a criminal charge and looks for someone to stand up for them against the mighty weight of the state. Why does it seem that what once were considered to be the marks of a civilised society are disappearing in the UK?
