What if the clinic had implanted the embryo without the consent of either parent (into a surrogate). Could both biological parents be liable to pay for the upkeep of the child (it would after all be their biological child) with no recourse against the clinic? What if the clinic had done that multiple times (to the same parents)? What if human cloning becomes possible, and someone "steals" a cell from your body and clones you (whereupon you would be the sole "parent" of the child: it contains only your genes)? Just some scenarios that perhaps should be thought about when considering what public policy should be. Denning's decision, as I recall, was on a very different situation.
