Having invested a significant amount in training the Trainees, why do their current employers allow somebody else to 'poach them' for a few dollars more. Whilst there may be little loyalty left, amongst employees generally (even Partners jump ship now and then!), if the current employer has treated the trainee well and can match market salaries, then there is no incentive for the trainee to leave.

If the trainee is offered a salary they can't refuse, then this must be covered by additional billing which would tend to detract from the work / life balance and either mitigate against the trainee leaving on the first place or staying with the new employer.
