I am a FCILEx lawyer and supervise a team of mostly qualified lawyers (some Solicitors some full or part qualified CILEX) specialising in litigation (not PI). Firstly, Fellows have had parity with Solicitors for many years now. Neither me nor anyone in my team intends to apply for a High Court Judge role any time soon, whether we technically can or not. Similarly, I don’t think any of us plan on relocating elsewhere in Europe post-Brexit . . . Secondly, I was promoted to my role based on merit and my professional qualifications being recognised by the firm of Solicitors that I work for as equal to that of a Solicitor, and if any of the Solicitors I supervise or even those who are senior to me do not agree that I am on a par with a Solicitor, they certainly have never dared to say so to my face! Thirdly, I have worked with and supervised both FCILEX/CILEX/Solicitors for many years - they do the same job, with complexity, pay and charge out rates based on their PQE and ability. I have never come across a judge who didn’t recognise me as a qualified lawyer and never seen or heard such disgraceful and misinformed comments anywhere except on lawgazette.co.uk articles.
