CILEX fee earners will never enjoy parity with solicitors. The solicitors’ profession is ancient and recognised by the general public. So-called Charted Legal Executives enjoy no public recognition. Furthermore, within the legal profession there is a significant stigma attached to our CILEX colleagues and, dare I say, rightly so. The public are entitled to expect high standards within the legal profession and, in my respectful view, CILEX merely offers a dumbing down of the practice of law. Finally, I would make it clear that no disrespect is intended.
