There are some very good CILEX/FILEX just as there are some less good solicitors.

If most people's experience matches mine though, the problem for the CILEXs is that the perception is that the qualification is not as good. I think that comes from the fact the majority of solicitors took the route of good A-levels, good law degree and passed law school 1st time. They are therefore, by those objective measures, cleverer than average.

The majority of CILEXs seem to be encouraged into it by their firms where they have worked as paralegals/secretaries and often without A-levels or a degree, much less having survived law school. Many from that cadre seem to start the CILEX course and only ever complete part of it.
