As already pointed out, Mr Hathaway's comment is pretty irrelevant because of one simple fact.

In the real world, the degree of one's enthusiasm for Brexit is directly proportional to that for the ECHR, the Council of Europe, liberal principles of human rights, and indeed respect for equality, and justice.

There will be many that will be outraged by this statement. I have no doubt that there is a correlation, having spoken and argued with many, both inside and outside our profession.
