The SDT ought to bear in mind that sometimes it is more important to be wise than right.

To discourage whistle-blowing by coming to the decision that they did was extremely unwise although technically they may have been right.

A trainee is expected to uphold the standards of a solicitor of course but perhaps the SDT could have been a little more lenient than they have been and required the trainee to attend some form of professional conduct course and perhaps add a year to their training contract. The fact is that in the end this person did do the right thing and that does not seem to have been properly recognised. A little bit of imaginative problem solving would not have come amiss here.

As it is the decision has really sent out a very unhelpful message.
