My comment has been removed for reasons I don’t understand, so I repeat:

“‘had sought to use his right to freedom of expression with the aim of promoting ideas contrary to the text and the spirit of the [ECHR].’”

It is concerning the court decided that freedom of speech only extends to certain acceptable ideas.

I believe the Holocaust occurred. However, those who believe otherwise must be free to say so.

Here’s why.

Imagine denying the Holocaust were illegal everywhere. For all we would know, there could be compelling evidence/arguments against it which, by law, we couldn’t hear.

In the UK, we can hear those arguments. And we can assess them. And we can conclude with confidence: “these arguments are rubbish, the evidence is weak, these people are lunatics - the Holocaust did occur.”
