I would have thought that the majority of clients will think that for certain types of work it is a case of 'it's buying a house' or 'it's winding up an estate' and they think 'how hard can it be?' and do look at price.

However, other types of work such as tricky litigation or a high-ish value divorce, they ant experience and may be prepared to look someone out by reputation ('she caned Clarissa's husband's brief').

Also, sexist this may be but I think men are more likely to focus on price and females, on the person.
