Reading this I am reminded of the sheer exhaustion of managing children and a caseload of family law. I could never be a mediator, it’s bad enough sitting with your own hostile client let alone two hostile folk in a room. I have done some family law recently and a while away from it has made me see it for what it is. You are trying to help some, not all, exceptionally self centered demanding people. People who shout when you explain the law if it’s not what they want to hear, they shout about paying for what they asked you to do, they bitch relentlessly about their opposite number. It seems to be far worse, this horrible behaviour, than it was when I entered the profession.
