I am old. I joined the legal profession many. many years ago when females examined a female's handbag or shopping bag and a male examined a male's bag. Security guards are sometimes male and sometimes female. So far as I am aware it is still forbidden for a male to do a body search on a female or a female to do a body search on a male. Why then is that not applied to baggage? Surely someone being searched, male or female, is entitled to some privacy as to the contents of their baggage. But then I am in my eighties and was brought up in different traditions. A tampon then was the most personal of a female's possession and, so far as I am aware, this is still so. How would a man react if a woman found a packet of condoms in his luggage?
