I came through Grays in the early 2000s as a working class BVC student from the Welsh Valleys. The meals themselves from what I remember were heavily subsidised, but it was the associated costs that really hurt - travel to London, overnight accommodation, subsistence etc, so the cost of the meal itself is only a small part the story.

Whilst we had some good evenings during the dining sessions, I can't say that I really learned anything that I wouldn't have picked up either through the course itself, or through pupilage, and was left wondering what the point of it was
