There are services CMCs offer which many, if not most, solicitors don’t so I find it entirely unsurprising that they exist for exploit a gap in the market. And yes, they’re often more expensive, but they’re often more convenient too. Many CMCs have a bad reputation, granted, but that’s not unlike many firms either.

I seem to recall there being many comments, on this very site, not more than a year ago saying that CMCs need to be regulated and sorted out – well that regulation has come into effect… how well it will do, who can say? We’ve seen how the SRA works, how it seems to turn a blind eye or be overly lenient to big city firms yet be very heavy-handed with small, local family/community firms. Whatever it may be, this seems to be a positive and needed first-step and I will personally be very hopeful that it gets support to be successful and ultimately beneficial to the consumer, even if it does mean some firms don’t make as much money as a result.
