The way our legal professionals are treated with woeful pay - seriously woeful - at times a PA is paid more - is bound to lead to scores of good lawyers who have worked and studied hard leaving the profession. Despite following me to do a law degree - I ensured my son did not succumb to entering the profession -he has however worked for one of the largest firms and is now paid better and treated far better than most lawyers! SRA needs to start protecting its lawyers- it has gone too far just because of some unscrupulous conveyancing practices and impacts on everyone. Some of us have very high standards and ethics. The salaries in particular in the regions for the hours they work is crazy / can’t survive on it. It’s why I work in London. If incomes were better perhaps it would encourage better lawyers to stay / as right now there is a lot of poor quality out there in these low paid jobs- because what decent lawyer will commit their lives for £40k- £50k a year. As said below- pay peanuts get monkeys- simple. I am not a conveyancer thank goodness - but I cannot understand how such low charges are sustainable whilst providing a professional service with all its associated obligations. The U.K. legal profession has killed itself by not supporting it’s lawyers more. We are not a charity. £650 in some cases for a conveyance of a property ? What planet are people on! Obviously that cannot provide a professional service!
