I would be grateful if someone could explain how the gender pay gap statistics, when taking median pay across the whole of a business, actually tells you anything. The real issue is to ensure that there is no pay gap between genders in respect of equal work or work of an equal value., subject to issues such as the experience of an employee. There are so many factors at play when looking at median pay that it really risks missing the point. Whether it’s shown as a percentage or .8 pence is meaningless.
