The idea that removing no fault determination of a tenancy is beyond crass stupidity.

Let us say a homeowner is moving to the USA for 12-36 months, he does not want his house to be vacant so decides to let it out: it cannot be right that he is prevented from declining to renew a fixed term tenancy.

Or if a landlord is getting divorced and the portfolio needs to be sold.

I am all in favour of dealing with rogue landlords and protecting tenants but I am not sure that these proposals will do either and have the potential for significant adverse outcomes.

This seems to be a classic case study of proposing policy at haste and with political expediency overriding due consideration.

Not on the subject but worth a read anyway 'The Blunders of Government'.
