Reading a load of the Barristers blogs and twitter comments about this issue, you do get the impression that there does seem to be an uncommonly high number of complete masochists at the criminal Bar.

They go on and on about being paid only £45 for a day's hearing, and then being left with nothing after paying for travel etc etc etc.

And still they say they work until midnight answering missives from the Judge or their oppo, or work all weekend long on a new case for Monday (which then is pulled an they get no pay for) - all in the name of 'helping society'.

As said below, why in the name of sanity does anyone voluntarily do this to themselves or their families?

It is complete and utter madness, yet still it continues...
