The inequalities go as far back as the haves and the have nots. Got the money then you'll get into better schools, colleges and universities. A better education at top or prefered educational establishments means better links. The average humble BAME solicitor male cannot really hope to be a High Court judge, a woman even less so. Are quotas a viable long term answer? No. But at this moment if a push has to be made in the name of equality then yes. Those speaking of merit have already had the advantages of an unmeritous system. As a BAME Solicitor myself, it would give me no pride to know I was selected as a token gesture or because of my skin colour. So does another entire generation miss out whilst JAC gets it right with the next generation? If at all?
