A Westminster snout reckons Obiter missed a frontrunner in the race to be next justice secretary – shadow attorney general Lord (Willy) Bach (pictured), barrister and pre-coalition justice minister. Activity in far-eastern betting syndicates hitherto unknown to the Gazette has seen Bach surge into the market at 6-4 (not really).

Labour has to win the election first, of course, or if not win, get into bed with the SNP. And/or the Greens.

Or possibly the Lib Dems. (That’s enough psephology – Ed.)

Remember, the reader who correctly identifies the next justice secretary and the date of their appointment gets a bottle of best Gazette bubbly. Entries to obiter@lawsociety.org.uk before polling day, please.
