After a truly memorable summer of sport, this was surely the pinnacle.

No sooner had Team Gazette waved the parade of Olympic and Paralympic athletes through London than we were on our way to another sporting spectacle: ferret racing.

The brainchild of DAC Beachcroft pair Richard Booth and Alex Oldershaw, a series of four-legged racers tackled an obstacle course set up in the heart of London’s Square Mile.

The £4,000 raised from a temporary bar and betting punters went to The Prince’s Trust.

Proving that the British public really will watch anything sport-related, the event attracted a crowd of more than 200, as Rumpole, sponsored by 39 Essex Street, streaked to victory. Rumours that he later performed the Mobot were sadly unfounded.
