Registered Charity No: 291705 (England & Wales).
Alcohol Change UK is the leading national charity working on alcohol issues. Our goal is to improve people’s lives through reducing the harm caused by alcohol. We have an ambitious long-term aim to change the drinking culture in this country.
Alcohol can cause a range of health problems such as stroke, cancers, high blood pressure and heart disease. It is the second biggest risk factor for cancer after smoking, and the main cause of liver disease, the fifth most common cause of death in the UK. Alcohol is also associated with antisocial behaviour, vandalism and personal violence. Did you know that:
- Every minute alcohol-related problems cost the UK economy around £48,000
- Every hour more than 100 people go into hospital in England and Wales with an alcohol-related condition
- Every day more than 40 people die as a result of alcohol in England and Wales
- Every week more than 100 children call ChildLine upset about their parents’ drinking - some as young as five years old.
Everyone deserves to enjoy life free from the negative effects of alcohol. While some people can enjoy alcohol moderately and within recommended guidelines, for others alcohol can be a devastating addiction and effectively destroy their lives. It is estimated that over 1.6 million people in the UK are living with an alcohol addiction. We are working to help make sense of alcohol and improve people’s health. Your legacy will help us create a world free from alcohol harm.
