Registered Charity No: 272145 (England & Wales).
Founded in 1928 by Dorothy and Pog Yglesias, the hospital depends entirely on donations and yearly subscriptions to Hospital Membership. Caring for both land and sea birds, its aim is always to release, but it provides permanent sanctuary in cases where this is impossible. If we cannot release an injured bird or meet its ongoing particular needs we endeavour to find the most suitable long term home for it with other centres or individuals already vetted for their suitability and excellence.
During the last year we cared for 1256 injured birds, of which 659 were fledglings. 440 were released when well again into their natural environment. As well as seabirds, garden birds such as goldfinches and wrens also come to us as patients, as do birds from field and woodland, such as meadow pipits, lapwings and owls. The RSPCA and local vets regularly bring birds for us to take care of them. With the increasing numbers of birds brought to us, support is particularly needed for our continuing programme of essential improvements and modernisations to help us with our work. Please help us to help them all.
