Sand Dams Worldwide

Sand Dams Worldwide is a UK-registered charity that supports rural communities in dryland areas of the world to gain access to a dependable supply of clean, safe water.

We work with our in-country partners to help communities build sand dams. A sand dam is a concrete wall built across a sandy riverbed that can capture up to 40 million litres of water stored safely within sand, protected from evaporation and contamination. The water is easily extractable via pipework connected to hand-pumps and is replenished each rainy season, providing year-round water for over 1,000 people.

Water changes everything. Having a water source nearby means that people, and especially women and children, can save hours that they would otherwise spend each day fetching water. This is time they can invest in their livelihoods or in attending school, putting their future firmly in their own hands. There are benefits to the environment too, as our projects help to restore and regreen degraded land.

Support from Solicitors and individuals:

You can support the work of Sand Dams Worldwide by leaving a gift in your will, or by making an individual donation. Sand dams last for upwards of 60 years so they really are a long-term and sustainable solution to water shortage in the world’s poorest areas. Any gift you can make is certain to transform lives now and for years to come.
