Registered Charity No: 258545 (England & Wales).
Founded in the City of London circa 1735, the West India Committee (WIC) is the oldest body representative of the Commonwealth. Today, it is a modern charity whose mission is the improvement of the welfare of the peoples of the Caribbean and the societies in which they live, work and study globally, through the auspices of education, training, advocacy, advice and where necessary, acting as an umbrella organisation. WIC remains the only Royal Charter institution specialising in the Caribbean and its peoples.
WIC’s UNESCO inscribed Memory of the World library, archive and collection spans five centuries and includes over 5,000 items, making it one of the leading collections in the world. Using this unique material, WIC’s work benefits from an in-depth comprehension of the Caribbean and its complex environmental and social heritage, enhancing the understanding and appreciation of the region and its people. In addition, WIC is a Consulting NGO of UNESCO on Caribbean Heritage and Small Island Developing States.
WIC has engaged in disaster relief for almost 300 years, having recently built a maternity hospital on the island of Anguilla following 2017’s Hurricane Irma.
Please make a donation in support our much needed work by sending a cheque or a Charities Aid Foundation voucher to the above address, or consider leaving WIC a legacy. We are also able to accept donations via PayPal.
