You report that the Solicitors Regulation Authority has intervened in the practice of Hellewell Pasley & Brewer, which has three offices in West Yorkshire, and that a solicitor from Eastleigh has been appointed to act as the SRA’s agent (22 May).

Not long ago, I concluded a matter with Hellewell Pasley & Brewer which required no fewer than four meetings at their office, at each of which were present three solicitors and five clients. At about 25 miles I was the furthest away and the travel time in each direction was around an hour.

I shudder to think how we would have all managed if instead of meeting in Yorkshire, it had been necessary to travel to the Solent.
