I was a sole practitioner and closed my firm after 23 years in 2010. I am now concerned to ensure that, if the planned closure of the Solicitors Indemnity Fund goes ahead in the autumn, I have in place further run-off cover. I contacted the Law Society some six months ago and again recently, but little seems to have materialised in terms of securing any interest from insurers in taking such cover on. I wonder if it is prudent to consider extending the SIF – subject to us paying a premium to them, failing which I foresee worrying times for all concerned.

I realise this is not a high priority in terms of what the profession is experiencing ( I still work as a locum) but I don’t want this to parked until the last minute.
