Continue the fight against preventable blindness.
Over 600,000 people in the UK have glaucoma, but only half have been diagnosed; others are slowly losing their sight without even realising. Glaucoma is a leading cause of preventable blindness; many people remain unaware of the risk of glaucoma, which can often have no symptoms. The damage done by glaucoma is permanent, but early detection and treatment can preserve sight.
The International Glaucoma Association (IGA) is the charity for people with glaucoma, with the mission to raise awareness, promote research and support patients and all who care for them. The IGA organises awareness campaigns, including National Glaucoma Awareness Week, funds pioneering research projects and works with other organisations to improve glaucoma care across the UK.
The IGA also provides practical advice and emotional support through the Sightline telephone service, a wide range of free literature with 'Information Standard' accreditation and support group meetings across the UK where people can hear from eye specialists and share experiences.
This vital work offers real hope that we can spare many thousands of people from glaucoma blindness. All our services are free and funded entirely from legacies and donations. Your help will continue the fight against glaucoma and can save someone's sight. Thank you for your support.
