Registered Charity No: 1146157 (England & Wales).
IT Schools Africa’s mission is to transform IT education in Africa and thus improve the lives and prospects of young people there. We collect used computers in the UK, refurbishthem and distribute them at low-cost to schools in Kenya, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Many of the state schools in these countries have received their very first computers from our programme. Our computers enable the schools to provide their pupils with the essential IT skills they need to access further education and significantly improve their job prospects. In each country we operate in we establish a local sister-charity to manage the distribution of the computers, and provide the schools with teacher training and technical support Since 2004, we have sent over 44,000 computers to Africa with over 1,500 schools having received computers from the programme.
IT Schools Africa also does a significant amount of good in the UK. At our Cheltenham headquarters we provide work-experience placements for the long-term unemployed, school children, college students and young people with special needs. We also work in partnership with three prisons, running computer refurbishment workshops where the prisoners do useful work and gain valuable IT skills.
A legacy donation to IT Schools Africa will help us continue and expand our work, improving the education of many thousands of children in Africa.
