Men from ‘less advantaged backgrounds’ as well as women and minority ethnic applicants are among the intended targets of a scheme to improve judicial diversity.

The initiative, led by Lady Justice Hallett (pictured), aims to put lawyers and legal academics with no judicial experience directly on to the High Court’s benches.

Of 108 High Court judges, only 21 are women and just three are from minority ethnic backgrounds.
