Registered Charity No: SC007410 (Scotland).
The National Trust for Scotland is unique in that our activities cover the full range of the nation's cultural, built and natural heritage. With over 100 properties in our permanent care, the Trust preserves Scotland's unique architecture, landscape and rich, colourful past. There are more than 75,000 hectares (185,000 acres) of gardens, mountains, wilderness, coastlines and islands in the Trust's care that are maintained for the enjoyment of visitors and managed sensitively for the benefit of the environment.
The financial cost of the Trust's commitment to the permanent care of these important properties is substantial. Some of these costs are met by the Trust's 315,000 members' subscriptions and, vitally, by donations and legacies from members and benefactors who love Scotland. Legacies may be gifted for specific properties, areas or purposes but, if left to the Trust's discretion, will be applied to the highest need at the time. That includes new acquisitions and endowments to permanently support our properties.
