As a local government lawyer, it was interesting to read an article on the Licensing Act 2003 (see [2004] Gazette, 2 September, 20). However, it was disappointing that each and every quote was from a private sector lawyer.
Hundreds of solicitors and other officers in local government are gearing up to deal with the work that was described, yet you apparently failed to find anyone from local government to give another view.
Perhaps you did try to get a reaction, but (like me) everyone was busy preparing licensing policies and procedures, even though we still do not know what procedures the government will expect us to follow.
