American dream as top 100 firms rack up revenue bonanza

The revenues of the top 100 US law firms continued to soar in 2000 despite a softening market, rising 17% to $310 billion, the annual American Lawyer survey has shown.Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom continues to dominate the revenue league table, with $1.15 billion.

Baker & McKenzie is next with $940 million and Jones Day Reavis & Pogue third with $675 million.Silicon Valley firms made major moves up the table; Brobeck Phleger & Harrison saw revenue rise more than 50% to $476 million.Average compensation per partner now stands at $723,000 with 16 firms boasting $1 million-plus compensation.

As usual, Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz leads, with its average $3.3 million compensation just more than $1 million ahead of nearest rival Cravath Swaine & Moore.Neil Rose
