Appointment of employment law committee membersThe Law Society is seeking to appoint members to its employment law committee, one to take up appointment as soon as possible, and others from 1 September 2001.

The committee's terms of reference include requirements that it must:l Keep under review and promote improvements in employment law and practice;l Support and promote the role of solicitors practising in this field;l Represent the views of practitioners in all sizes of firms;l Influence thinking & developments in employment law, in the UK & Europe, by means of reports, responses to consultations & meetings with ministers, civil servants, advisors & others;l Seek clear, comprehensive, fair and workable provisions in employment law and to increase understanding and appreciation of employment law generally.An important part of the committee's current programme is supporting the Law Society Council's strategy to promote the role of the profession in employment law.Meetings take place at the Law Society in London five times a year.

In addition a considerable amount of work has to be done prior to and between meetings, sometimes on working parties and sub-committees, so members are asked to make a significant commitment in terms of time and input.

Candidates should be specialist practitioners with demonstrable technical knowledge of and experience in employment law, and should be able to contribute actively to the work of the committee with positive, practical ideas.

Candidates with experience of lecturing and writing on employment law issues would be particularly welcome.Applications are sought from all solicitors with the enthusiasm, expertise and time necessary, irrespective of sex, race, colour, age, sexuality or disability.

Appointments will be made following a selection process which will include interviews of shortlisted candidates.
