If any confirmation were needed of the contempt in which this profession is held by the Legal Services Commission, we now have it contained within the proposed amendments to civil contracts from April this year.
Assessed bills will have to be lodged with the commission within one month of completion of the assessment, and failure to do so will lead to a penalty of 25% for each month the bill is submitted late.
Why? How on earth can the commission be prejudiced by paying my bill later than it ought to have done?
It would be hard to imagine more blatant abuse of a dominant market position.
Imagine the huge outcry there would be if this ridiculous proposal were made in any other area of commercial life in this country.
This profession had better get up off its knees and quickly otherwise the adminis-trators will inherit the earth.
