Please pass on my thanks to Anthony Bogan for his brave article on alcoholism (see [2008] Gazette, 10 January, 18). A member of my wider family has a drink problem that we think is alcoholism. Many of the things Anthony said made me realise how severe the problems might be. Anthony's insights into his thought processes and self-justification for carrying on drinking for so long were enlightening. I hope any readers who feel they are struggling with alcohol dependence will seek the help that is out there.
