Now we have the resounding results of the referral fees postal ballot it is time for the Law Society Council to have the good grace and sense to admit its misjudgement and apply immediately for the original rule to be reinstated.
It was a shameful change that the council made, undermining the most basic tenet of a solicitor's role always to act with the utmost independence in the interests of the clients.
We should have a list of the council members who voted for this amendment, because you only needed a modicum of business nous to understand that the amendment takes money out of the pockets of both the profession and consumers by increasing costs.
