Major City firms announced a wave of partner promotions today, with 33 lawyers made up across the world.

City firm Herbert Smith made up 18 lawyers, including 11 in London and three in Paris. The most promotions were in the firm’s energy practice (4). When the promotions go through on 1 May, Herbert Smith will have 272 partners.

City firm SJ Berwin promoted seven to its partnership, including five in London, one in Frankfurt and one in Madrid. Most promotions were in the firm’s corporate practice (3).

City firm Berwin Leighton Paisner made up eight associates, including seven in London and one in Moscow. The most promotions were made in the firm’s litigation and dispute resolution practice (3) and corporate practice (3). The firm also promoted nine to associate director, including three in London and five in Moscow.

The 33 promotions announced today follow news that another 50 lawyers have been made up by City firms over the last week.

City firm Lovells promoted 21 to its partnership, including five in London, 10 in continental Europe and six in Asia and the Middle East. The firm’s corporate department saw the most promotions (7). When Lovells merges with US firm Hogan & Hartson on 1 May, the merged firm will have more than 800 partners.

National firm Eversheds promoted 19 to its partnership, of which eight were in the UK and 11 abroad.The firm’s company commercial practice group saw the most promotions (12), followed by its litigation and dispute management practice (6).

City firm Bird & Bird promoted 10, with one made up in London and the rest outside the UK. The firm’s banking & finance, dispute resolution, commercial and information technology, and intellectual property and patents practices each saw two promotions, and its EU & competition and restructuring practices one promotion each. The firm will have 222 partners as of 1 May.
